UFCW Local 951 Names Courtney Phillips New Secretary-Treasurer

GRAND RAPIDS, MI — The United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) Local 951 Executive Board has appointed Courtney Phillips as the union’s new Secretary-Treasurer following the retirement of Secretary-Treasurer Marisa Didur.
Phillips has been a UFCW 951 member since 2005 when she joined as a member of the field staff. She worked her way up through the ranks, as a team supervisor, training supervisor, and director of the local’s entire field staff team.
“Throughout her career, Courtney has advocated for workers as a union representative, bargained contracts, and worked on organizing campaigns,” said John Cakmakci, UFCW 951 president. “Her skills and expertise are a huge asset to the local that will greatly benefit the membership.”
Phillips grew up in a working-class union family and prior to joining UFCW 951, she worked as an organizer for Service Employees International Union (SEIU). She has served as a member of the UFCW 951 Executive Board since 2023 and is a member of the Labor Heritage Society of West Michigan board of directors.
“I am truly honored to be appointed as Secretary-Treasurer,” said Phillips. “Over the past nearly 20 years, UFCW 951 and our members have become my family. I have been, and will remain, dedicated to doing everything I can to improve the lives of hard-working families and to provide them with the better life they have earned. I am excited to be part of the incredible executive leadership team at UFCW 951.”
UFCW 951 is a progressive labor union representing over 28,000 workers across Michigan in a variety of industries including grocery, retail, food processing, pharmacy, and cannabis, who are employed at a variety of companies including Meijer, Kroger, Rite Aid, JBS, JLL, Sunberry Beverages, Polly’s, Harding’s, and Grandville Roasting & Packaging Plant.
